Where a Great Gatsby party decided to don a mask. To create excitement and engagement, I designed a one-of-a-kind graphic to serve as the official invitation for the Masquerade Holiday Party, an end-of-the-year Mac House celebration. This case study examines the graphic design elements and their impact on the overall invitation’s effectiveness.
The Challenge
Designing the invitation involved overcoming the challenge of balancing festivity and professionalism. Through careful selection of layout, color scheme, and typography, the final design achieved a harmonious blend of warmth, elegance, and sophistication.
Scope
My goal was to design an invitation that evoked a sense of holiday cheer and celebration. The design needed to convey an air of mystery to capture our guests’ interest in attending the party.
Design
Define the party's theme and serve as a digital invitation adaptable across all platforms.
People
Engage the target audience which included co-workers, clients, friends, and family.
Communication
Provide essential information such as the date, time, and location.
Layout & Composition
The layout & composition of the graphic was important in maintaining visual appeal for invitation recipients. The design adhered to the standard 5′ x 7′ dimensions for invitations and was divided into three sections: the header, the body, and the footer.
Header
Branded image illustrated an iconic symbol synonymous with the event theme.
Body
Event title is prominently displayed in an attention-grabbing decorative design.
Footer
Essential event information is arranged in a clean and organized manner.
Texture & Color
The use of velvet and gold leaf combined to create an opulent and luxuriant ambiance that added a feeling of mystery and intrigue. The organic quality of the gold leaf added depth and a hint of sheen that gave the impression of one grasping the invitation in their hand.

Typography
For the event title, a serif font was chosen for its bold and decorative nature and to serve as the focal point. In contrast, a clean—yet still stylistic—legible sans-serif font was used for the event details ensuring clarity and readability. To round out the typeface combination, an art deco-inspired font was utilized to highlight the event’s numeral day.
